We got creative with s’mores. Exhibit A: chocolate chip cookies courtesy of youth group leftovers, caramel filled chocolate courtesy of Bob, and our own marshmallows. Might have been a bit too sweet… I had kids bouncing off the walls until 7pm (we ate s’mores at 4).

You sassy!

Grandma Carol brought a fatty toad and 3 snails for my little men. Poor fatty toad, he was well fed with bugs and worms, but likely didn’t realize that he would be given rides around the backyard on construction equipment.
So proud of my boys. They were gentle and respectful to fatty toad. He was given way more food than he could ever eat, and when I said toad had enough fun, he was kindly released under the big pine tree.

I can’t not post this. Someday all the shenanigans will be told around the dinner table, and we can look this up as proof.
The three of us were in the back yard messing with the compost. Boys disappear inside. Harrison was privy to the fact that we had fruit snacks (a rarity) Fast forward maybe 2-3 minutes. Mom knows with her boys quiet is a dangerous sound. I enter the kitchen to find the above scene.
I ask, how do my boys think of these things. We were up to our knees in dirt outside, but somehow butter was more inticing???
I’ll have you know that is takes more than 2 shampoos to fully remove butter from the scalp.
Noah is all about rainbows. Our failed experiment last week has inspired him to find rainbows all around us. Yesterday, he found one on the garage floor of all places. He was so excited!

Aren’t my boys beautiful? Some of the pictures came our looking like their faces were horribly bruised, but we did have fun.
All this rainbow play was to distract the boys from Rob’s tasks of installing a new insinkerator and changing the oil on the car. My little guys are all about fixin’ things, whether they are broke or not.

Dozer Days has got to be just about the coolest fundraiser I’ve ever been to. I’ve never seen so many little boys, and we probably saw a dozen wearing the same shirt as Noah. What an awesome way to spend a birthday!

Grandpa Russ with the boat (as opposed to Grandpa Russ with the dog) met us at Dozer Days. We started off the morning with a green popsicle, a fave of my boys, while we waited our turn to scoop and dump the excavators.

We threw some rocks at rusty hubcaps, wrote our names on rocks and mortared them in place. Noah wrote his own name AND carried his own stone. How cool!

We took a ride in a huge dump truck, climbed under and all over lots of construction equiptment, saw some men shoot off a cannon, and enjoyed reasonably priced food and root beer.

The boys were fairly exhausted by noon. A wonderful birthday morning for a 4 year old man.

4 years old!
Noah, you are a blessing. I love your energy and your smile! You are a regular monkey – it it’s there, you can climb it!
You are so handsome and smart. Your speech is coming along beautifully. I can understand you. You take pride in saying your words correctly and enjoy school.
I appreciate how kind you are to your little brother. He loves you and looks up to you. It’s a big responsibility for someone who is 4, but you handle it well. You are not bossy, you share and play well with Harrison.
You love the outdoors and anything that involves moving. Nature is not safe when you are around. Logs get stacked, trees get climbed or swung from, water must be stomped in or splashed, frogs and bugs are examined. You enjoy everything about outside that God gave us.
You are stubborn and do challenge your father and me daily, but I know that these are good traits and will serve you well as you mature.
You are loved and treasured. We are blessed to have you in our family.
Happy Birthday little man.
We had guests this weekend. My college roomate, her husband and their puppy Trek. Noah couldn’t get over that they named their dog after his bike. Ranger didn’t have enough energy to keep up with the pup, but he was kind and showed him how to swim and bark.

What a great time! There was canoeing, grilling out, s’mores galore, beach hikes, more grilling and a whole lot of laughs and fun!

Harrison was given a find-it type Thomas book for his birthday. It is, hands down, the number 1 requested read this month. One of the fave pages shows the troublesome trucks fooling Toby (Mom’s favorite) by causing him to think he’s shunting rocks, when really it’s banana’s. This is hilarious to 2 and nearly 4 year old’s.
Today we studied the difference between boxes filled with rocks and boxes filled with bananas. The boys learned that rocks are harder to push. But, banana’s are better to eat and kind of funny!
We also tried to make rainbows using a flashlight, some paper and Hot Dog’s bowl. We had very limited success; I think mostly due to the condition of Hot Dog’s water. I have never seen a fish poop so much! I’m considering getting a snail to keep the water cleaner, and maybe a water plant too. The rainbows were too little to capture on film, but it did keep the boys attention for about 5 minutes.
